Vernon Burkhead, age 88, of Big Clifty, KY., departed this life, after a short illness, on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Springview Health & Rehab surrounded by his loving family.

He attended Big Clifty Methodist Church, was a WWII Army Veteran and worked for the Grayson County Road Department.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years; Freda Lois Clark Burkhead, one daughter ; Mary Jo Franich and her husband, Greg, two sons, Don Burkhead and his wife, Jo and Martin Burkhead.

Other survivors include his grand-children; Michael and Katie Burkhead, Chad Pence, Scott Davis, Adam Burkhead, Heather Young and her husband; Mark and two great-grandchildren; Landen and Seth Young. Also a host of friends and neighbors.

Vernon was preceded in death by one son; Roger Dale Burkhead, his parents; John Arthur and Katie Lee Nichols Burkhead and one brother; Albert Burkhead.

Visitation : Friends after 1:00 pm Wednesday February 16 2011 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at 9:00 am Thursday until service time.

Services : 1:00 pm Thursday February 16 2011 at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home with Bro. Chester Shartzer officiating.

Interment : Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Big Clifty.
