Robert Carl “Bob” Williams, age 79, of Big Clifty, passed away Monday, September 7, 2026, at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville. He was born November 16, 1946, in Louisville.
Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a retired firefighter with more than 40 years of service to the East Grayson Fire Department, where he served on the board and as chief. Bob loved his work and was deeply devoted to the fire department and the people he served.
He taught auto mechanics at Grayson County Vocational School for 28 years. Bob had a lifelong love of automobiles, especially Volkswagens. In the 1970s, he worked as a mechanic for a Volkswagen dealership.
Bob was a member of Summit Baptist Church and enjoyed singing gospel music with different groups. His favorite song was “Three Rusty Nails.” He enjoyed participating in car shows for more than 30 years, where he often served as the DJ. He also loved playing Santa.
Bob was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Tommy Helm, Molly Rosson, Anna Elkins, and Mildred Oehler.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Ann Haynes Williams. Though Bob and Joyce had no children of their own, he loved his family deeply and thought of his two great-nieces, Christina Milliner and Casey (Robert) Kipper of Big Clifty, as his own. He was thought of as a papaw to Brandon (Lola), Renee, and Robbie Kipper, all of Big Clifty; Miranda (Jake) Cousins, Danielle (Shianne) Milliner, and Colton (Brook) Milliner, all of Eastview. He was also considered a great papaw to William, Teagen, Levi, Hailey, Jackson, Dean, Layla, and James.
He is also survived by his brothers, William “Bill” Williams, James Helm, Charles Oehler, and Cecil Sutherland; a sister, Dorothy White; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM CT, Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Rogers Funeral Home, with Bro. Damon Lasley, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Church of Christ Cemetery in Big Clifty.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM, Saturday and after 9 AM, Sunday at the funeral home.
