Obituary

Patrick Ray "Pat" Heffley passed from this world surrounded by his family, on June 29, 2025.

He always felt like he had a destiny of loving others to fulfill. On July 8, 1936, he was born premature at only 3.5 lbs in Red Bluff, CA to Harold and Irene Heffley. At 2 years old he survived illness, after having been given last rites by their priest. God certainly had great plans for him.

Pat spent his young life in Red Bluff, Tehama and Los Molinas, CA.  After graduating Los Molinas High, he voluntarily served in the US Navy and Navy Reserves from 1955 to 1963, traveling abroad on three tours, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown CV-10.

After being honorable discharged from the Navy and attending Chico State University, Pat found the career that would change his life. He became a lumber salesman for Weyerhaeuser and volunteered to take a sales position in Central KY. Thanks to the late EJ Milby, he was introduced to Carol Lee Bratcher on April 1, 1965. It was love at first sight for both of them. They married just four months later on August 20th. It was at this time that he also became a faithful member of the United Methodist Church.

Together they lived in Lexington, Bowling Green, Louisville, and eventually Leitchfield, his wife's hometown. Throughout those years they raised two children. Holly Jo who gave them two grandchildren, Ryan (Hayley) Russell and Reyna Russell, and Lee Patrick and his wife Kendra, who gave them two granddaughters Harper Lee Heffley and Hope Heffley. Pat was also rewarded with two great-grandsons, Patrick Daniel Russell and Luke Thomas Russell.  He had many brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews, none of which were in-laws, but family he loved dearly.

Many came to know Pat through his continued sales career at Future Designs and Quality Aluminum Products from which he retired in 1999. After retirement he and Carol Lee continued to manage Bratcher's Flea Market and Fair View Cemetery.

He enjoyed woodworking throughout his life, a craft handed down from his father. Some who read this may have a basketball or football pedestal, each of which he crafted by hand.

Those who knew Pat knew that beyond his great love for his family, his career in sales, and his hobby of woodworking, was his true passion of bicycling. He saved for his first bike when he was 8 years old and was hooked.  In 1972 he got his first road bike and began seriously logging the miles. Over the years there have been many bikes and many rides, but most of all he was so grateful for the countless friends with whom he shared or introduced to his joy for the sport. You all know who you are. Ride on in his memory!

Pat is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Judy Filer, and two brothers Robert and Jim Heffley. He is survived by his loving wife Carol Lee, all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one brother Jack (Melanie) Heffley of Sacramento, CA.

Pat wished to be cremated, and for family and friends to gather in his memory.  His service will be at the Leitchfield United Methodist Church Saturday, July 26th at 10 AM CT, with a lunch and celebration of life immediately following, next door at The Rock. Guests are welcome to attend either or both.

The family would like to thank all of those that have been so helpful and supportive on this journey – family, friends, his doctors, The BeeHive and Hosparus Health.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Fair View Cemetery, Inc.
