Herbert Ray Meredith, age 91, of Leitchfield, passed away, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, surrounded by his family at his residence.
He was born on March 11, 1935, in Grayson County, to the late Thurman and Betty Lou Cook Meredith. He was a former garbage man for the City of Leitchfield Sanitation Department and a part of the God’s Mission Church Family. He enjoyed fishing, coon and fox hunting, horseback riding, old cars, four wheelers, gardening and flowers. Family was very important to Herbert; he loved to go watch his boys drag race and his grandchildren playing ball and participating in demolition derbies. In his later years, he loved it when his family came and visited him. He was a very caring man, who loved children and was always concerned about his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Meredith and Warren Meredith; two daughters, Freda Meredith and Charlene Miller; a grandson, Kris Meredith and several brothers and sisters.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 71 years, Adalene Davis Meredith; a daughter, Lisa Scarbrough (Eddie); a son, Ronnie Meredith (Bessie); seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a special great-grandson, Hunter and numerous other great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, May 22, 2026, at Watkins Funeral Home with Bro. Kennith “JR” Smiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Wortham Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 8 PM, Thursday and after 9 AM, Friday at the funeral home.
