Gordon Leonard Higdon, age 79, of Big Clifty, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born February 13, 1947, in Grayson County to the late Leonard and Nora Higdon. Gordon was a retired devoted farmer who loved caring for his animals, working with his tractors, and sharing his garden with others.

Although Gordon never had children of his own, he lovingly treated his 17 nieces and nephews as his own. He was a father figure to many and cherished the special relationships he shared with each of them. His kindness, generosity, and love for his family will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dale Vertrees; a nephew, Darren Hodge and a great-nephew, Preston Highbaugh.

Gordon is survived by one brother, Calvin Higdon; five sisters, Marlene Vertrees, Ronda Murray (David), Carmielita Hodge (George), Regina Nance, and Shelia Smith (Steve); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 PM CT on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Rogers Funeral Home in Clarkson, with cremation to follow.
