Obituary

Foy Embry was born on July 25, 1919 in Ohio County, Kentucky. The son of Otis and Zora Taylor Embry, he was the oldest of seven children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Flora Embry; son, Kimel Embry; his brothers, Elmer Embry, Thurman Embry and Eslie Embry.

Mr. Embry is survived by one son, Doyle Embry (Sue); one daughter in law, Arita French; five grandsons, Barry Embry (Beverly), Larry Embry (Patti), Kendall Embry, Darren Embry (Jessica), and Derrick Embry (Erin); and seven great grandchildren, Caitlyn Embry, Ross Embry, Samuel Embry, Joshua Embry, Emma Embry, Lincoln Embry, and Ewing Embry. Also surviving, one sister, Dorothy Porter, and two brothers, Dallas Embry, Wendall Embry and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.

Foy was a graduate of Butler County High School in 1937. On September 8, 1939 he married his wife of seventy-one years, Flora Pharris. Shortly thereafter, Foy and Flora moved to Grayson County where they purchased what is now Embry's Longview Farms. Foy served the United States as a member of the Army Central Intelligence Corp in Western Theatre of World War II and then returned home to farm. Over the course of his life he owned and operated various businesses as well as serving as Grayson County Judge, the first Administrator of Grayson Manor, and being a member of the Grayson County Hospital Board.

A member of the Greatest Generation, above all else, his enduring legacy is that he was a man of God (Elder, First Cumberland Presbyterian Church), he served his Country, his State, and his County dutifully, he was a faithful husband to his wonderful wife, he raised two exceptional sons who grew the family business, and all five of his grandsons graduated from college and have been successful in their chosen fields.

Visitation : Friends may call at Watkins-Oller Funeral Home from 1:00pm- 8:00pm on Thursday May 1 2014 and from 9:00am - 10:30 Friday.

Services : Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday May 2 2014 at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Brother Jim Johnson will officiate services.

Interment : Burial will follow in Leitchfield Memorial Gardens.
