Charlene Adelle Pope Akridge, age 89, of Leitchfield passed away peacefully Monday, October 17, 2022, at her residence.
She was born May 4, 1933, in Louisville, to the late Robert Tucker and Peachie Marie Wilkerson Pope. She was a faithful wife and mother of seven boys. She was member of Clarkson Church of Christ where she taught the children's Bible class and made ten mission trips to Ukraine with her husband where she taught Bible classes for ladies and children. Charlene was the secretary and treasurer for Big Clifty Service and Supply from 1976 until her retirement and a housewife who enjoyed sewing and spending the winters in Okeechobee, Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Steven Akridge; a granddaughter, Mary Hazelwood, a great-granddaughter, Savannah Crawford and several brothers and sisters.
Charlene married James Wesley Akridge on January 16, 1953, who survives, also surviving are five sons, John (Valarie), Keith (Peggy), Bruce (Tammy), Michael (Anne) and David (Kimberly); a daughter-in-law, Vanda Akridge; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, October 21, 2022, at Clarkson Church of Christ with Denver Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarkson Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 AM to 8 PM, Thursday and after 9 AM, Friday at the church.
Rogers-Oller Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
